Hello readers,
Today I want to talk about the aerial planet Mercury. First, it holds a special place in my chart as my chart ruler, I’m a Gemini rising with a Virgo Sun. Secondly, I’m captivated by the wit and sharpness of its energy. And finally, I’ve recently found myself in partnership with a man who has a Gemini stellium (three or more planets in the same sign). In his case, five planets. Observing and analyzing this vibrant mercurial energy as it unfolds at the forefront of his personality is an exhilarating experience for the researcher in me.
So, what is Mercury?
In Astronomy, Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, with only Venus separating it from Earth. In Astrology, the symbolic language of the Human Psyche, the Sun represents the conscious self, our core identity, the source of the light we shine into the world. Mercury, situated right next to it, serves as the bridge we must traverse to access and express that light.
Mercury is the mind, the tool we use to bring understanding to our experiences. It’s the translator, the antenna linking the inner and outer worlds, connecting who we believe we are with how we show up in the world. When this connection is coherent, we align with our sense of identity and step into embodied consciousness, what we call the present moment.
We allow our identity to shine by aligning our thoughts, beliefs, and actions. But, like any part of the psyche, this requires effort and dedication. Imagine Mercury as a vast, multidimensional library where every experience, thought, and interpretation is meticulously stored. Each disk within this archive represents a pattern, a story replayed on auto-pilot whenever triggered by familiar events. Left unchecked, these narratives can limit our potential, trapping us in cycles of repetition.
Yet Mercury also offers an invitation: to step into the programmer’s chair and consciously curate this mental library. With the Sun’s vitality illuminating our awareness, we can rewrite old scripts, explore new ones, and unlock hidden wings of this infinite archive. Stepping into this role empowers us to become both the actor and the director of our lives. Mercury reminds us that the mind is a neutral and vast tool. When guided by the Sun’s clarity, it transforms into a gateway to richer experiences, deeper understanding, and a life of intentional creation.
This is why Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo, two mutable signs that embrace adaptability, change, and audaciousness. To consciously reprogram the mind is to embody these inherent mercurial qualities. When I realized my chart’s potential to channel Mercury’s essence, I stepped into the playful nature of this planet. Becoming the programmer of my mental archive is nothing short of jubilating.
There’s something thrilling about this perspective. It replaces the stress of the human experience with excitement for any circumstance. It’s like holding the remote control of a game where there’s no right or wrong, only unfolding experiences and a will to understand and expand from them. You keep trying new disks until one feels so fun and fulfilling that you press replay a few times.
Mercury brings playfulness into the midst of life’s seriousness. It reminds us of the interchangeability of everything, the simple truth of free will. At any moment, we can change our course of action, try different characters in the gameplay, and switch skins until one feels great. And even then, we retain the freedom to change again. It is the sadness of impermanence and the joy of newness. It is duality and the essence of the in-between.
Coming back to the partnership I indulge in at the moment. It is a jubilating experience for a mercurial baby to meet someone on the same mental wavelength. To be able to communicate freely, bluntly, and in depth. To face a person who understands the nuances of language, recognizing that no truth is 100% black or white but needs to be expressed in order to be released. Communication becomes a tool to transmute raw emotions into clarity, misunderstandings into bridges, and thoughts into creative energy.
With this person, I feel the exhilarating potential of Mercury’s energy in action, the thrill of shared ideas, the playfulness of debates, and the profound depth of connection that arises when two minds meet in their fullness. It’s a reminder of Mercury’s gift: the power of words and thoughts to shape, heal, and transform not just ourselves, but the relationships we hold dear.
With love, Louna.
